How to Clean Your Contact Lens Case (Step by Step)
Deel
You clean your lenses every day, but when did you last clean the case they sleep in? A lens case sits in a warm, damp bathroom, which makes it an easy place for bacteria to settle. A two-minute routine keeps it fresh.
The daily routine
- Empty it. After you put your lenses in, pour out all the old solution. Never top up yesterday's solution.
- Rinse with fresh solution. Use the multipurpose solution your eye care professional recommended, not tap water.
- Rub the wells. Use a clean fingertip to rub the inside of each well and the caps for a few seconds.
- Rinse again. Give it one more rinse with fresh solution.
- Air dry upside down. Set the case face down on a clean tissue with the caps off, so water can drain and air can circulate.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using tap water. Tap water can carry microorganisms that are harmful to eyes. Keep it away from your case and lenses.
- Drying it closed. Snapping the caps on while it's wet traps moisture.
- Leaving it next to the toilet. Store your case away from the toilet and sink splash zone.
- Keeping it too long. Even a well-cleaned case wears out. See our guide on how often to replace your contact lens case.
The easiest way to stick to it

Make the case something you like looking at. A JADE case gets exactly the same routine as any other case, but it's pretty enough to leave out on the counter to air dry, instead of hiding it in a drawer while it's still damp. Its threaded caps unscrew fully, so the wells are easy to rub clean.
Quick checklist
Empty, rinse, rub, rinse, dry face down. Replace every three months. For more on lens hygiene, read our complete guide to keeping your eyes safe, and ask your eye doctor if you have questions about your specific lenses or solution.
