How Often Should You Replace Your Contact Lens Case?

How Often Should You Replace Your Contact Lens Case?

The short answer: at least every three months. That's the guidance commonly given by eye care organisations such as the American Optometric Association and the FDA, and most optometrists will tell you the same.

Why three months?

Over time, tiny scratches form inside the wells of a lens case. Those scratches are hard to clean and give bacteria a place to build a film. Regular cleaning slows this down, but it can't stop it completely. Replacing the case resets the clock.

Signs you need a new case sooner

  • The plastic looks cloudy, scratched or discoloured.
  • The caps no longer seal tightly or have started to crack.
  • You dropped it somewhere unhygienic, like a public bathroom floor.
  • You had an eye infection. Ask your eye doctor, but a fresh case is usually a good idea.
  • You can't remember when you last replaced it.

Make replacing it something to look forward to

Tie your replacement to the seasons: new season, new case. With JADE, that means a new colour every three months, from hot pink in spring to classic onyx black in winter.

The simplest way to never forget is to keep a spare ready. Our set of three JADE cases covers nine months of swaps and is our best value per case. Mix and match any colours you like.

The bottom line

Replace your case every three months, or sooner if it looks worn. Pair it with a good daily cleaning routine and your case will stay as fresh as your lenses.
